First dates are a funny thing, some people love them and some people hate them. I for one am quite a fan of them just becuase you never know what's going to happen. That doesn't mean to say all my first dates have gone great...some of them I just wish I stayed at home and missed.
Over the Easter holiday when I was back home, my mum thought it would be a fun activity to remind me of some of my dating history from wayy back in my awkward mid-teenage years.
Im not gonna name any names because I'm #classy but I since i've already made a fool of myself in front of these people, why not tell the world?
Traumatised by Tangled
One of my first ever dates I went on was when I was about 14. For some reason I really wanted to go on a date with this guy (current me can't see what the fuss was about) I pestered him for weeks until he finally gave in and we went to the movies. The only movie that was being shown at that time was Tangled....first hurdle. No snacks were brought and the conversion was so uncomfortable I wanted to hide under the cinema chair. But for some reason I was trying to force this to happen even though it totally felt like he was dragged here by his mum. I clearly remember cracking up at this one part in the movie and heard him mutter under his breath "childish". At the end of the date we ended up on the same train home.... extra awkward, when I could finally get off and let all that awkwardness go, I had time to reflect and thought it would be a nice thing to text him a "thanks for the date" message. Which never received a reply.
Moral of the story: Don't force someone to go on a date with you because it will just be an awkward mess.
Liquid Courage
Im going to give you a little background on this guy and why I was so nervous in the first place. I'd been chatting for this guy on and off for quite a while, he was a few years older and for 15 year old Nicole that was "so cool". He was the king of playing hard to get, one day I would be swooning and the next day he was ignoring me. So when he finally asked me out for drinks I was so excited but even more nervous. My friend thought we should get in a pre date sheesha and some drinks of our own so i'd be less stressed. I ended up having 4 tequila shots... (remember i was so nervous so I didn't exactly eat before) When I finally met up with the guy I was in the tipsy stage but soon after he brought me a vodka mixer, BOOM the drunk mess hit. Lets just say the last thing I remember is getting put into a taxi and seeing him looking rather pissed off.
Moral of the story: Sometimes it's okay to be nervous just hold back on the alcohol if you actually want to remember your date.
Period Problems
This story is a little gross for all you out there that can't handle period talk. So I'd arranged this date with a guy after school and as he was coming from quite far away I pretty much had to leave straight after school finished to get there on time. As every girl does, I was in the toilet with my friend checking myself out when I had the horror of noticing that i'd just got my period....and hard. The worst part was that our uniform had a beige skort, which pretty obviously showed everything. It was too late to cancel and I was stressing out pretty hardcore so my friend (shout out to you Jaya) quickly suggested that we swap skorts so that I wouldn't have to worry about all the mess and she'd just wash mine for me at home. I mean if thats not a best friend thing to do then I don't know what is. The date went pretty good and after seeing him another time I found out he had a girlfriend.....
Moral of the story: If something horrific happens before a date, take it as a warning sign.
At the time these were some scarring memories, but now I think they are hilarious. What was your worst date? xx
